AUSPOST commissioned EMCSI to undertake earth continuity and insulation resistance checks for the parcel handling and sorting system.

When Matthews and Yates (Australasia) began importing their extensive range of heating and ventilation products they turned to EMCSI to help them achieve compliance with the applicable Australian standards for electrical safety and EMC.

 The RCM and Electrical Safety

We have extensive experience in obtaining electrical safety approvals and approval certificates for Australia as required under the electrical safety legislation.

Typical electrical product approvals include: household items, commercial equipment and machinery.

The RCM (regulatory compliance mark) may be used to show electrical safety compliance and compliance with the C Tick requirements.  It can substitute for the C Tick Mark and Safety Approval Number.

Compliance is demonstrated against the applicable Australian standards and electrical safety legislation often by using CE test reports together with the difference report as prepared by EMCSI.

For clients who wish to export to the US and the EU we conduct assessments and prepare all the reports and required compliance documents for EU’s Low Voltage Directive and US electrical safety authorities.

What is the RCM?

To place electrical products on the market in Australia requires assessment against the applicable Australian safety standards as mandated by the electrical safety legislation.  Safety approval certificates are required for a designated list of “prescribed items”, that are in the main household goods such as swimming pool equipment, fans and heaters, however all products that connect to single phase and multi-phase power supplies need to be assessed and declared against the applicable Australian standards including machinery.

To indicate that a product complies with the applicable Australian standard for electrical safety the supplier has the option of using an “approval number” or the Regulatory Compliance Mark or RCM.  The RCM is a trademark of Standards Australia.  Currently the RCM can be used to indicate compliance with EMC and electrical safety requirements to the extent as set down in the applicable and current standards, state legislation and Australian Communication and Media Authority Notices.  Usage of the RCM requires payment of a fee and registration on a database.

Beginning 2012 the ACMA plans to phase out the C Tick Mark and replace it with the RCM.
